Revised Proc HE codes – List to Level 2

21 March 2017      Emma Keenan, Procurement Specialist

As you may be aware, a project has been underway for many months now to review the Proc HE codes in circulation, with a goal to provide one “official” list. The Proc HE codes were developed many years ago but were never maintained by a central group. This means that, since the codes' original circulation, lists have evolved in universities in different ways. Whilst each university will choose to use a coding schema which meets their own needs, having a single agreed HE list means that the regional consortia are able to clearly and accurately identify spend across the sector in each category and commodity to enable them to provide you with framework contracts that meet your needs.

The project has aimed to align the codes to a category management structure as well as making them easier to use. This spreadsheet details the codes to level one and two; levels three and four are being planned but will take some time. The spreadsheet details the new suggested code, as well as showing where codes that we have proposed be suspended should now be placed.

Understanding many Universities are waiting on this information I wanted to provide it for you sooner rather than later. Please note though that work continues.  Whilst we do not anticipate the list to change, we are working on adding extensive narrative to each level 2 area confirming what should and should not be coded there. We hope this will help anyone considering the codes for the first time, prevent miscoding, and help those in wider procurement roles identify the correct areas more easily.

The list will be owned by HEPA and held in the resources section of the website. It will be regularly reviewed by subgroup of the HEPA board. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Ashley.
