Impact on universities of new off-payroll working legislation

17 July 2019      Caroline Jones, Employment tax director

Many of you will have seen last week’s article on the reforms to the off-payroll working for the private sector, which come into effect from 6 April 2020.

The draft legislation detailing the changes means that universities may well need to change their current processes and procedures for engaging with PSCs, particularly where there are agencies in the supply chain between university and PSC. As a result, this seems a good time to remind ourselves of the rules around off-payroll working, get up to speed with the changes from April 2020 and understand what this means for your organisation. Additionally, we will consider status more generally.

PwC has agreed with BUFDG to host a session primarily focussed on off-payroll working and to include some other topical areas that will be of interest to HEIs. The event will take place at PwC’s More London office on 26 September 2019 and will be suitable for those with a good understanding of the off-payroll working rules as well as those who are newer to the subject. If you would like to attend this event booking details are here.
