UUK Facts and Figures

01 November 2017      Matt Sisson, Projects and Membership Manager

UUK’s ‘Facts and Figures’ report is out this week, and brings together a range of data on students, staff, finances, and outcomes. It doesn’t track many of the measures over time, which limits its use for analytical purposes, but it’s a handy format for communicating the size and shape of the sector to those who are unfamiliar with it. Highlights from this year’s edition include record application rates from the most disadvantaged 18 year olds in both England and Scotland, and an increase in the percentage of leavers in work or further study to 92%. For use in the Brexit debate, 14% of Senior Lecturers and 11% of professors are from the EU, as is 11% of research income.

In related news, applicant numbers for early-deadline courses has reached record levels, with an increase of 7% on last year, according to the latest figures from UCAS.
