PVS – demonstrating the value of university procurement

09 June 2020      Ashley Shelbrooke, HEPA and Project Specialist

The Procurement Value Survey (PVS) gathers institutional and sector-wide efficiency data in line with the HE sector benefits methodology.  The results for the 2018 / 2019 financial year once again clearly demonstrate the value of university procurement teams.

88 institutions responded to the survey which represents for a total impactable spend of £7.8bn.  Of this £7.8bn, £2.2bn was spent with SMEs and £1.6bn was spent through Purchasing Consortia and other collaborative agreements.

Total gross efficiencies from these institutions were a fantastic £326m, including price reduction, added value, risk reduction, process re-engineering and sustainability.

The full report is available to members here and breaks the data - including the HE sector Procurement Performance Indicators (PPIs) - down by institution size allowing for insightful benchmarking.
