ATA Carnets: useful HMRC Guide and Countries that accept Carnets

HMRC has updated Apply for an ATA Carnet   with a list of chambers authorised to issue ATA Carnets.   

They are:

  • Aberdeen
  • Birmingham
  • Bradford
  • Bristol
  • Dorset (Poole)
  • Durham
  • Edinburgh
  • Glasgow
  • Leicester
  • Liverpool
  • Manchester
  • Northampton
  • Norwich
  • Nottingham
  • Portsmouth
  • Southampton
  • Thames Valley

HMRC have updated How to use your ATA Carnet.  This is a very useful guide, which provides an overview of how ATA Carnets work for imports and exports from the UK.  ATA Carnets may be useful when members are moving goods overseas where there will be no third party importer, for example,  for field trips or research projects, or where goods are moving from country to country, for example, touring exhibitions.

HMRC have updated the list of Countries that accept ATA Carnets

Find out which goods an ATA Carnet will cover has been updated to include cars and motorbikes.

***Update as at 31 March 2021***

Apply for an ATA Carnet has been updated with  information about responsibilites of the carnet holder.  It also emphaisises that you need to make sure that you apply for the correct number of carnet vouchers at the time of application (a voucher is used everytime the goods enter or leave a country or customs territory).
